GIS Analyst (Water) - Job Description (Sample)

Job Summary

Provide geospatial support and solutions for local water, sewer, and stormwater utility clients.


  • Perform basic GIS tasks to include creating, editing, and managing GIS datasets and creating project-based map layouts on short notice
  • The ability to read as-built, record, and other engineering documents
  • Edit water, sewer, and stormwater data to include attribute and geometric updates from plans, record drawings, or incorporate data collected in the field
  • File organization and attention to detail for project tasks
  • Perform a range of GIS tasks at an intermediate level
  • Perform high level analysis of multiple sources of data via ESRI ArcGIS software suite
  • Perform quality control checks
  • Provide remote and onsite staffing for clients in the Raleigh area to include regularly scheduled onsite work schedule and meetings


  • 2 - 5 years minimum experience in the field of GIS
  • BA, BS, or AAS in GIS, Geography, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of GIS-related software, products and services
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with little direction
  • Knowledge and understanding of water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of land surveying data collection methods and software
  • ESRI Certification (preferred)
  • GISP Certification (preferred)
  • ArcGIS Pro Software Experience (preferred)
  • ESRI LGIM and Utility Network Experience (preferred)
  • GIS Application Experience to include Model Builder, Web App Builder, Storm Maps, Collector, Field Maps, or Survey 123 within the ArcGIS Online Platform (preferred)
